JOB PRESENTATION
The Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB) was formed in 1982 as a membership-based organization. The Association’s mandate is policy advocacy in order to provide and promote an enabling environment for business development and growth within the Hospitality and Tourism sector.

Purpose of Role

Responsible for the overall coordination of the HATAB policy advocacy agenda and membership management. The agenda is aimed at promoting an enabling environment for the hospitality and tourism sector growth in Botswana.

Key Areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Driving the broader goals of the organization by planning and Implementing Strategic management plans.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence-based polity positions and messaging and clearly articulate the issues in publications and other related materials.
  • To identify regulatory barriers affecting the hospitality and tourism sector.
  • Contribute to research and analysis of the context and policy debates at national, regional and international level
  • Convene meetings between HATAB and members, as well as regulatory authorities and stakeholders.
  • Strategies to strengthen the organizational capacity in resource mobilization and ensure financial viability.
  • Conduct regular surveys of the members.
  • Supervise project execution by collaborating with consultants and contractors.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to expand the business.
  • To develop the membership offering including pricing and benefits, a long term membership strategy and evaluate and Implement changes to the membership structure as the needs of the business and members demand.
  • Develop and manage the delivery of campaigns to recruit new members.
  • Develop membership retention strategies and targets.
  • To work alongside public affairs learn to ensure that membership events are coordinated with the standard programme of events.
  • To be the internal champion for the HATAB Membership database.
  • Be accountable to the Finance and Administration department for the policy advocacy and membership department budget and spend, forecasting regularly.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as Policy Advocacy and Membership Manager.
  • Fully understanding the Hospitality and Tourism industry both locally and internationally.
  • Solid understanding of and experience in engaging with the private sector and government, networking and representing an organization at the national, regional and international level.
  • Experience in writing research materials and advocacy briefing would be an advantage.
  • Experience in developing and cultivating partnerships with local organizations, including a long distance.
  • Public speaking and excellent presentation skills.
  • Fluency in both English and Setswana.
  • Competency in MS Office and relevant databases
  • Must have good customer care and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Project Management and reporting with the ability to supervise contractors and consultants.
  • The ability to manage departmental finances.

Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Communications,

Public Policy and Research, Statistics.

  • Degree in Hospitality and Tourism will be an added advantage.
  • At least S years post qualification experience in policy advocacy and membership, 3 years of which should have been at managerial level
