World Bank Internship Programme; The Bank Internship offers highly motivated and successful individuals an opportunity to improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting.
We seek talented, motivated and highly successful candidates who want to improve not only themselves but who want to make the world a better place for all. Successful candidates will be able to grow within a diverse environment. Interns will have the opportunity to receive expert coaching, and hands-on training and learn from exposure to challenges. They will be rewarded with knowledge of poverty reduction and international development.
They seek candidates in specialized areas, relevant to the operations of the World Bank. These include finance, public health, education, economics, population, human resources, nutrition, social science, sociology, agriculture, anthropology, business development, private sector development addition to the environment and so much more.
Candidates who have prior work experience, computer skills along with language skills and can communicate in more than one, excluding English, as it is a requirement, will have an added advantage. There is no set age restriction for applicants, nonetheless, candidates must have completed their undergraduate studies. They are also required to be enrolled on their graduate study program or be studying in a graduate program, pursuing a master’s degree. They must be committed to returning and completing their studies, as full-time students.
The students benefit from the invaluable experience and knowledge they will gain, whereas the Bank benefits from the assistance of a diversity of candidates, each with their own ideas and knowledge. Many students also gain personal and professional relationships that could be beneficial during their lives. This internship offered by the World Bank is made available to nationals/citizens, from countries that are member countries of the Bank. It attracts large amounts of skilled candidates from all over the world, therefore only the best of the best will be selected.
Most of the internships offered by the World Bank are only for a duration of 4 weeks to 3 months. Internships will be done at the World Bank in Washington D.C., however, they may also use candidates in-country offices if needed. Once your internship has been completed, the Bank may extend it if they feel the need to do so. Interns will receive hourly-paid stipends, where applicable. They will cover travel expenses where needed, but candidates will be responsible for their own living arraignments within Washington.

World Bank Internship Programme Requirements
Applications are accepted yearly for a selection of internships. Candidates with a knowledge of languages will be preferred. These languages include Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
Candidates will also be required to have the following:
- Candidates must hold a valid Matric certificate
- Candidates must be a South African citizen
- Candidates must hold a valid ID book/card
- Candidates must hold a diploma or degree from a recognized institute of higher learning
- Candidates must be MS as well as computer literate
- Must be proficient in English (read, write & speak)
- Candidates must not hold any kind of criminal record
Relevant work experience will be an advantage. Candidates are urged to please ensure all documentation is certified and copies are attached to their application. Incomplete applications or those with missing documentation will not be considered.

World Bank internship online application processes are made available twice during the year. Candidates wishing to apply can register, login and submit their application, and curriculum vitae along with all required documentation. Any additional information needed can be found on their web page.
World Bank internships Closing Dates
The World Bank internship closing dates are available twice a year. This is due to their summer and winter internship opportunities.
The World Bank Group Internship is offered during two seasons:
- Summer Internship (June–September): The application period is December 1–January 31 each year.
- Winter Internship (December–March): The application period is October 1-31 each year.
All applications must be submitted online. (Applications submitted after the deadline are not considered.)
