ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION TRUST
FirstRand Foundation Trust Bursary South Africa | The FirstRand Foundation was established in 1998, as a way for FirstRand Limited and their major franchises (FNB, RMB and WesBank) to direct their individual and collective corporate social investment. Since the Foundation was formed, it has received 1% of FirstRand Limited’s net profit after tax (NPAT).

The FirstRand Foundation Trust is inviting students to apply for their Undergraduate Bursary Programme, for the 2023 academic year..
Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards critical skills programmes, specifically for Undergraduate Degree studies in the following fields:

- Risk

- All specialisations/ disciplines
Science:
- Actuarial Science
- Agricultural Science
- Bioscience
- Climate Science
- Data Science
- Electronics
- Environmental Science

- Society and Sustainability

Technology:
- Business Information Systems
- Computer Science

MORE ABOUT THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION TRUST BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED | OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, learning resources, computer (for 1st-year students), accommodation, meals and a monthly stipend.
The Trust will keep in contact with bursary recipients, and may also offer the following opportunities:
- Vacation Work
- Hackathon
- Mentoring
- Think Tank
- Invitation to FirstRand Offices
- Students’ transportation to and from campus to provincial headquarters
- Interaction with FirstRand personnel at the university campus
- Driver’s License

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION TRUST BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be Black (African, Coloured, Indian, Asian)
- You must NOT be older than 21 years in your first year of study
- You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric within the last 3 years (applicants who completed Matric more than 3 years ago may NOT apply)
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 5 for Mathematics in Matric
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must intend on studying full time towards an undergraduate degree, in one of the commerce, engineering, science or technology fields listed above (postgraduate qualifications (PGD or Honours degree) may be funded in exceptional cases where the postgraduate qualification will give access to employment opportunities)
- You must have applied for and been provisionally admitted to study at a public university in South Africa, in 2022
- You must belong to the “missing middle” group, with a combined gross family income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum
