Job Description

The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) is a global activist network fighting for universal access to treatment. ITPC is an issue-based organization that uses HIV as an entry point to the right to health and treatment access across the world. ITPC is seeking a Citizen Science Manager (CSM) to support our Watch What Matters (WWM) strategic focus area.

There are three strategic focus areas at ITPC (#MakeMedicinceAffordable, #BuildResilientCommunities and #WatchWhatMatters). The CSM forms part of the WWM team and directly reports to the Citizen Science Lead – who is a Global Program Lead at ITPC. The CSM has responsibility for the day-to-day management of projects under the Watch What Matters strategic focus area to ensure that ITPC meets its strategic objectives.

There are no geographic limitations for this post- work can be performed from anywhere in the world. This anticipated start date for this post is January 12022.

Main Responsibilities

  • Program implementation of ITPC flagship WWM interventions (i.e., community-led monitoring, research, etc.)
    • Support the development, framing and planning of the WWM interventions annually
    • Design and create data systems and processes to facilitate community-led monitoring and research approaches
    • Build capacity of sub-recipients, activists, and communities to undertake community participatory research to carry out evidence-based advocacy
    • Oversee the implementation of community-led monitoring & research systems and processes
    • Oversee and mentor personnel at community, national and regional levels on the M&E processes and the facilitation of community-led monitoring initiatives.

Day-to-Day Project Management

  • Monitor project performance and deliver quality deliverables in a timely manner within budget which meets or exceeds milestones
  • Write, collate, edit, finalize and submit timely comprehensive reports
  • Work collaboratively with team including technical and finance members to maximize project impact
  • Perform continuous risk assessments of projects and implement risk mitigation strategies where needed

Support the visibility of WWM work at national, regional and international levels by working with partners and ITPC’s communications team

  • Develop strong and credible relationships with partners, donor and stakeholders
  • Oversee the programmatic and financial performance of projects under WWM
  • Develop operational systems and processes aligned to donor requirements
  • Provide appropriate technical/thematic input into WWM deliverables
  • Represent WWM at national, regional and international conferences where needed
  • Develop research agenda and facilitate operational research to support evidence-based advocacy initiatives at global, regional and community levels
  • Perform administrative duties such as payment authorizations, monitor procurement processes, Salesforce approvals, etc

Team management

  • Build, mentor and motivate a project team – staff and consultants
  • Supervise project staff in different time zones (distance management)
  • Performance frameworks, assessments etc.
  • Ensure that staff are capacitated to meet donor deliverables and reporting requirements

Donor and contract management:

  • Serve as the focal point for the project donor with all projects
  • Build strong and credible relationship with donor and all stakeholders
  • Apply a risk management/mitigation approach to project delivery
  • Link to finance team to ensure project performance
  • Ensure all donor compliance requirements and agreed targets, deliverables and impact are met in collaboration with project team leads

Strategy

  • Work with CSL to ensure that work stream is well designed, planned, implemented and evaluated to meet Watch What Matter’s and ultimately ITPC’s objectives
  • Support the development of metrics for success for the projects within the strategic focus area and link to ITPC monitoring and evaluation processes
  • Support fundraising for this WWM

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in an international context, nonprofit, philanthropic sector or related field is required. Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of Master’s Degree
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex multi-country projects with organizations of various levels (grassroots, community-based, NGOs, INGOs etc.) is required
  • Proven experience building the capacity of grassroots, community-based and NGOs to carry out community-led interventions, including but not limited to community-led monitoring, community-led research and advocacy
  • Previous work with PEPFAR, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or Unitaid – a plus
  • Demonstrable and progressively responsible leadership experience required
  • Demonstrable experience of managing staff and leading teams
  • Must have the ability to be flexible with work time and scheduling
  • Must have the ability to travel 30-45% of total work time
  • Commitment to ITPC’s mission and to the health and human rights of all people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS is essential

  • Strong written and oral communication (including presentation) skills in English. In addition to English, ability to work in another language is a plus
  • Comfort working collaboratively and managing staff both in-person & virtually (using Zoom, Skype and other tools).
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and perspectives
  • Exceptionally quick learner (technical content and people/teams)

Compensation

This is a Three (3) year fixed term position with an annual salary and benefits range of USD $50,000 to $60,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is contingent upon contract grant award to ITPC and funding availability from the respective donors supporting this strategic focus area.
