University of Otago Admission from an Overseas Secondary School

The University recognises a number of overseas secondary school qualifications for the purposes of entrance. The most common are listed below. Please contact the University Information Centre for information on your eligibility for admission on the basis of other overseas secondary school study.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

(Admission ad eundem statum at entrance level)

To be eligible for admission students taking GCE A Levels must normally achieve at least 3 A Level passes with at least one grade at level C or above to be considered for admission at entrance level. A result in General Studies will not be accepted.

Fee

A non-refundable administration fee of $93.00 will normally be charged for applications under admission ad eundem statum at entrance level.

Evidence you are required to provide

You will be required to provide an official copy of your final results once they become available.

Please contact the University Information Centre for information on Preferential Entry requirements when applying for the applicable undergraduate programmes on the basis of A Levels completed overseas.

USA High School Diploma

(Admission ad eundem statum at entrance level)

To be eligible for admission if you have completed the USA High School Diploma in either the United States or at an international secondary school you must:

  • be awarded the High School Diploma, and
  • achieve a minimum SAT score of 1190 (or 1650 if the SAT was taken before March 2016), or an equivalent ACT composite score.

You must also meet the criteria for Language requirements.

Evidence you are required to provide

You will be required to provide a copy of your official High School Diploma and official evidence of your SAT results once they become available.
