ABOUT THE COMPANY – FNB

FNB (First National Bank), founded in 1838, is the oldest bank in South Africa. A division of a large financial services conglomerate, First Rand Limited, FNB is one of the countries “big four” banks. The financial institution provides services for private, personal commercial and corporate banking to millions of customers across the country.

The bank’s logo features an Acacia tree, symbolic of the companies deep roots in South Africa which have grown due to the bank’s commitment to serving its customers.

FNB’s subsidiaries can be found in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana, Lesotho, Swaziland and the Channel Islands, as well as plans to expand into Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME

The FNB Fund Bursary, administered by the StudyTrust, are awarding partial bursaries to those studying (or planning to study) towards a Commerce, Engineering or Science degree qualification.

The partial bursary will provide coverage for approximately 50% of the total study fees per annum – students will be required to cover the remainder of their fees via another method (student loan/ NSFAS etc).
Bursaries will be awarded to students studying in the Commerce/ Engineering/ Science field of study and majoring in one of the below:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Strong academic potential
  • Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric within the past 2 years (students who have completed Matric more than 2 years ago may not apply)
  • Studying or intend on studying full time within one of the aforementioned undergraduate fields of study
  • B Business Science/ B Com students must have achieved the following minimum results in Matric (June or final exams): 60% for English and 60% for Mathematics
  • BSc students must have achieved the following minimum results in Matric (June or final exams): 60% for English, 60% for Mathematics and 60% for Physical Science
  • Engineering students must have achieved the following minimum results in Matric (June or final exams): 60% for English, 60% for Mathematics and 60% for Physical Science
  • Accounting students pursuing their Honours qualification are welcome to apply
  • Students with disabilities are welcome to apply
  • Proven financial need
  • *Preference will be given to female students, as well as learners from previously disadvantaged communities and those residing in rural areas

Applications must be done in one of the following ways:

2) By downloading and completing the FNB StudyTrust Bursary Application Form (.pdf)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with the application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Grade 11 final results, if currently in Matric
  • June 2018 results OR latest results if not currently studying
  • Matric certificate/ results, if completed Matric (certified copy of)
  • Complete tertiary academic record, if at tertiary level (certified copy of)
  • Proof of admission/ provisional admission to the institution you applied at, if not currently at tertiary level
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Essay about your life (to be completed on the application form)
  • 2 testimonials (1 from an educational official and 1 from a community or spiritual leader – to be completed on the application form)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income:
    • if unemployed: sworn affidavits
    • if employed: latest payslips (certified copies of)
    • if self-employed: sworn affidavit declaring monthly income or latest audited financial statements (certified copies of)
    • if deceased: death certificate or a sworn affidavit (certified copies of)
    • if residing with your guardian while parents are alive: guardians latest payslips (certified copies of)
    • if parents are divorced: divorce certificate (certified copy of)
    • if parents are separated: a sworn statement from one parent confirming separation
