ABOUT THE COMPANY – GLOBELEQ

Globeleq, founded in 2002, is a global operating power company, as well as a power industry leader within the emerging markets. The company develop energy projects in the Americas and within Africa, by way of electric power sectors development.

Globeleq South Africa, operating in the country since 2012, is a Globeleq subsidiary company. Globeleq South Africa Management Services is responsible for the management of 3 power producing utility projects within the renewable energy sector of South Africa – these include the Droogfontein Solar Power; De Aar Solar Power and the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm. The projects are owned by a partnership with Eskom, the South African government, as well as other private sector developers, local communities, constructors, lenders, investors and suppliers.

ABOUT THE GLOBELEQ SCHOLARSHIPS – FIELDS COVERED

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) are inviting students to apply for their scholarship awards, for the 2022 academic year. The GSF have 3 types of scholarship awards available:

1) GSF Engineering Scholarship: is for students pursuing a National Diploma or Bachelor’s in Technology (BTech) qualification in Mechatronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

2) GSF Scarce Skills Scholarship: is for students residing within the Northern Cape or Eastern Cape and intend on studying towards a Degree or Certificate qualification in Agriculture, Education or Nursing.

3) GSF Communities Scholarship: is for students residing studying towards a Degree or Certificate qualification in ANY field of study, and residing within a 50km radius in which Globeleq operates: Aries Solar Power, Boshof Solar Power, De Aar Solar Power, Droogfontein Solar Power, Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, Klipheuwel Wind Farm, Konkoonsies Solar Power or Soutpan Solar Power.

MORE ABOUT THE GLOBELEQ SCHOLARSHIPS – BACKGROUND

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF), is managed by Globeleq South Africa Management Services (GSAMS) and is funded by GSAMS’ independent power producers (IPPs) and the Globeleq Educational Trust (GET), one of its shareholders. The GSF was first launched in 2014 and has currently awarded over R10.3 million in bursaries, to deserving students. Each year, approximately 36 students receive scholarship funding for their tertiary studies.

The aim of the GSF is to:

  • Assist with meeting the need for technical skills within the renewable energy (RE) industry
  • Form a skills pipeline for Globeleq and the industry
  • Contribute to sustainability of the communities where Globeleq operates and to the country

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GLOBELEQ SCHOLARSHIPS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1) GSF Engineering Scholarship:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying towards a Mechatronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering qualification (BTech or National Diploma)
  • You must be entering your 2nd or higher year of study in 2022 (excluding bridging courses or extended programmes)
  • You must be studying at a recognised higher education institution in South Africa
  • You must be interested in renewable energy

2) GSF Scarce Skills Scholarship:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric OR be currently in Matric
  • You must reside within the Northern Cape or Eastern Cape province
  • You must be registered to study towards an Agriculture, Education or Nursing qualification (Degree or Certificate)
  • You must be registered to study at a recognised higher education institution in South Africa
  • You must be entering 1st or higher year of study in 2022

3) 3) GSF Communities Scholarship:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric OR be currently in Matric
  • You must reside within a 50km radius of any of the following: Aries Solar Power, Boshof Solar Power, De Aar Solar Power, Droogfontein Solar Power, Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, Klipheuwel Wind Farm, Konkoonsies Solar Power or Soutpan Solar Power
  • You must be registered to study towards a Degree or Certificate qualification, in ANY field of study
  • You must be registered to study at a recognised higher education institution in South Africa
  • You must be entering 1st or higher year of study in 2022

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE GLOBELEQ SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications must be done online at: Globeleq Scholarship Applications

Please ensure that you select which of the 3 scholarships you would like to apply for.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results AND all Matric results, if currently in Matric (certified copies)
  • Proof of provisional university acceptance, if applicable (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Matric certificate, if currently studying at tertiary level (certified copy)
  • Latest academic transcript, if currently studying at tertiary level (certified copy)
  • Proof of university registration, if currently enrolled (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Statement briefly explaining why you chose your particular field of study and how you plan to use your qualification after graduation (1 page)
  • Recommendation letter from someone who can attest to your personal character and/or your academic performance, with their contact details, NOT a family member or friend (1 page)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed, SASSA grant if applicable)
  • Students under 18: a completed and signed consent form by your parent/ legal guardian along and an ID document (certified copy)
