ABOUT THE COMPANY – SAPOA
South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Bursary | The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), founded in the year 1966, aims to protect the interests of the industrial and commercial property industry within the country. As a uniquely member-driven organisation, SAPOA’s goal is to encourage private property ownership and development.
The company’s main aim is to be accepted and recognised (both nationally and internationally) as a leading property association.
The SAPOA bursary fund intends to address the shortage of skills shortage within the South African Commercial Property Industry. The fund is aimed at assisting young black deserving financially disadvantaged students, in the hopes that they can transform the countries commercial property industry.

The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) is inviting students to apply for bursary funding, for the 2023 academic year..
SAPOA awards bursaries each year to deserving university students, for studies within these fields:
- Construction Studies (BSc)
- Finance (BCom) (majoring in Property Valuation and Management)
- Property Management (BSc)
- Property Studies (BSc)
- Property Valuation and Management (BCom)
- Quantity Surveying (BSc)
- Real Estate (BSc)
- Town and Regional Planning (BSc)
- Urban and Regional Planning (BSc)
The SAPOA Bursary Trust was formed in 2009 and is primarily funded by SAPOA members. The aim of the bursary is to: promote transformation, redress the past, promote the property sector to youths and address the current and future skills shortage.
MORE ABOUT THE SAPOA BURSARY PROGRAMME – SELECTION | OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
SAPOA will award bursaries based on 4 main criteria: financial need; academic merit; availability of funds and university requirements. Bursary awards payments are made directly to the tertiary institution and can NOT be used to pay outstanding loans or debts.
Once students have graduated, they may be offered employment via the Graduate Development Programme, within SAPOA (or a member company) – employment is subject to availability within the company and is not guaranteed.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview before the final selection is made.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SAPOA BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen or a South African naturalized citizen
- You must be a Black student, as defined by the BBBEE Act (i.e. African/ Coloured/ Indian)
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the fields listed above (postgraduate qualifications will only be funded if the qualification will allow the student to register in the property industry)
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a University or the University of Technology in South Africa (that is registered with the Council for Higher Education)
- You must have a strong academic record

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SAPOA BURSARY
Download and complete the SAPOA Bursary Application Form (.pdf)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance to study at a tertiary institution (on institutions letterhead)
- Latest academic record or transcripts, if currently studying (on institutions letterhead)
- Breakdown of costs for the relevant study programme for the year (on institutions letterhead)
- Parents, guardians or breadwinner’s ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents, guardians or breadwinner’s 3 months banks statements
- Personal statement (max 2 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae stating work experience and background (if not included in the personal statement)
- 2 letters of recommendation
