Steiner School Certificate (SSC)

(Admission ad eundem statum at entrance level)

To be eligible for admission if you have completed the Steiner School Certificate offered by the Federation of Rudolf Steiner Waldorf Schools in New Zealand, you must:

  • have achieved the SSC Level 3, and
  • 9 SSC points in one approved subject area from Learning Outcomes (LOs) 4001, 3008-3093, and
  • 9 SSC points in a second subject area from LOs 4001, 3008-3093, and
  • 9 SSC points across a third subject area from LOs 4001, 3008-3093, and
  • 4 SSC points in approved (UELW) literacy (writing) LOs at level 2 or above, and
  • 4 SSC points in approved (UELR) literacy (reading) LOs at level 2 or above, and
  • 9 SSC points in approved (UEN) numeracy LOs at level 1 or above.

Evidence you are required to provide

You will be required to provide a certified copy of your final transcript and evidence of qualifications achieved once they become available.

Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) Year 13

(Admission ad eundem statum at entrance level)

To be eligible for admission if you have completed the ACE Year 13 you must be awarded the Year 13 Certificate which includes at least 4 subjects designated Year 13 level.

Evidence you are required to provide

You will be required to provide a certified copy of your final transcript and evidence of qualifications achieved once they become available.

New Zealand University Entrance

Bursaries and Scholarships Examinations and/or Unit Standards

From 1993 to 2003

To be eligible for admission you must have achieved at least three C passes (above 45%) in the Bursaries examinations, and have been awarded Higher School Certificate. An A or B Bursary also fulfils entrance requirements.

For the purpose of university entrance, 13 credits in an approved subject at Level 3 or above on the National Qualifications Framework earned before 2004 are equivalent to a pass in a Bursary subject and can be used together with passes in Bursary subjects to gain entrance. For students seeking entrance from passes in Bursary subjects together with NCEA credits in subjects taken in 2004 or 2005, 14 credits in each subject are required. You will need to apply to the Learner Information Section of NZQA for an Accumulated Statement of Entrance.

From 1987 to 1992

To be eligible for admission you must have attained four individual subject passes with D grades or better (Practical Art up to 1988 counts as two subjects for this purpose).

Before 1987

To be eligible for admission you must have achieved an aggregate total of 160 marks in four subjects.

Examination or accreditation before 1986

You qualify for admission if you gained University Entrance by examination or accreditation before 1986.

University Entrance and/or Bursaries Examinations before 1993

You qualify for admission if you gained a combination of points in a minimum of four subjects from University Entrance and/or Bursaries Examinations before 1993. A ‘credit’ required a mark of at least 40% in 1986 or a D grade or better after 1987 (Practical Art up to 1988 counts as two subjects).

Evidence you are required to provide

The University of Otago has access to historical University Entrance results files. However, you may be required to provide a copy of your official entrance qualification if your application cannot be matched to these files.

Preferential Entry requirement for applicants who achieved University Entrance prior to 2004

The requirement for Preferential Entry for the applicable undergraduate programmes is University Entrance by accrediting and/or an A or B Bursary or Scholarship. Results which do not meet this requirement will be considered for Competitive Entry.

Please note that if you have completed tertiary study since obtaining University Entrance you will not usually be eligible for Preferential Entry on the basis of your secondary school results.
