Sassa South African Social Security Agency Grant Application | Sassa South African Social Security Agency Grant Application | The special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant The President declared a National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard, he introduced a special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month for 6 months to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant or UIF payment etc. This Social Relief of Distress Programme was confirmed in the Regulations made under Section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002): Measures to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19, as amended. Applicants will need to provide the following information- Identity Number or Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number
- Name and Surname as captured in the Identity Document
- Gender and Disability
- Contact details – Cell phone number
- Residential Address
Important to note applicants will have to sign a declaration and consent to their information being validated and shared with other organisations and financial institutions such as SARS and banks. A detailed declaration and consent document is available on this website. During the application process, applicants are expected to agree or disagree with this document by confirming for instance through a yes or no option. Asylum Seekers and Special Permit HoldersAsylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are registered on the Home Affairs database and whose Section 22 Permits are valid, or were valid on 15 March 2020 can now apply for the Special Covid-19 SRD R350 grant. An SMS containing a secure link, unique to you, will be sent to the mobile phone number with which you registered during the application. Click on the link in the SMS and follow the instructions carefully. Should you select payment into a bank account, please ensure that you are the owner of the account. SASSA cannot pay your grant into another person’s bank account. Should you select the money transfer option via one of the major banks, please ensure that the mobile phone number on which you received the SMS is registered in your name. SASSA cannot pay your grant to a mobile phone number which is registered to another person.
